KEYSER, W.Va. — Scott Kitrell rushed for 148 yards and a touchdown and David Echartea added 128 yards on the ground as the Keyser Golden Tornado (8-3) advanced to the second round of the West Virginia Class AA playoffs with a 29-6 win over the Point Pleasant Big Blacks (7-4) Friday at Alumni Stadium at Tornado Alley.
With the game tied at six late in the first half, a snap went over the head of Point Pleasant punter Cody Greathouse and out of the back of the end zone for a safety. After the ensuing free kick was returned to the PPHS 33, Keyser quarterback Tyler Biser connected with Kadeem Garland for a 33-yard touchdown pass with 1:40 left in the half.
Kitrell scored on a 45-yard run on the first play of the fourth quarter and KHS capped the scoring when Logan Delsignore recovered another high snap in the end zone.
The Golden Tornado travel to No. 2 Magnolia next week; it's the second straight year the two will meet in the second round. Last season, Magnolia upset then-No. 1 Keyser en route to the state championship game. Magnolia crushed Roane County, 58-7, in their first round game.
