ROMNEY, W.Va. — Rachel Coles scored on a direct kick in the 80th minute to break a tie game and send Musselman to a 2-1 victory over Hampshire in high school girls soccer on Saturday.
Coles scored Musselman’s only other goal, on a penalty kick in the first half. Hampshire knotted the game 1-1 when Jayden Ware scored on a feed from Brittany Maphis 11 minutes into the second half.
Both teams had 14 shots and Hampshire led in corner kicks 5-3. Hampshire goalie Rachel McBride had nine saves.
Thursday at Martinsburg, Maphis gave Hampshire an early lead, but Martinsburg scored eight unanswered goals to roar back for an 8-1 victory.
Maphis scored unassisted just five minutes into the match, but Martinsburg’s Lauren Bartoldson tied it eight minutes later, and Lauren Trimble put the Bulldogs ahead to stay just before the half.
Kendall Bush scored four goals in the second half and Courtney Webb had two to complete the Martinsburg scoring.
Martinsburg led in shots 30-1 and in corner kicks 10-0. Shelby Kaiser had 13 saves and Rachel McBride seven in goal for Hampshire.
The Trojans (0-5) play at Bishop Walsh on Wednesday at 5:30.
