CUMBERLAND — Destiny James and Leah Yurko scored two goals apiece and Fort Hill wrapped up the Cumberland City League crown by beating Allegany 5-1 in their Homecoming girls soccer game Saturday at Greenway Avenue Stadium.
The third-ranked Sentinels are now 3-0 against City competition with a game left against Bishop Walsh on Wednesday at Greenway. Fort Hill is assured the title regardless of the outcome of that game, and still has a shot at a share of the Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference crown.
James and Yurko scored the first goal of the afternoon with Yurko doing the assisting at the 25:05 mark of the first half. Yurko scored an unassisted goal 10 minutes later, and Mariah James scored with 2:10 left before half as the Sentinels took a 3-0 lead into halftime.
Allegany’s Allie Getty got the opening goal of the second half to make it 3-1, but Yurko’s second goal came 11 seconds later to push the lead back to three goals.
James then added her second goal with under five minute to play to put the score at its final tally.
The Campers actually lead in shots (13-10) and corner kicks (9-6). Fort Hill used a different goalie in each half. Alyssa McTaggart had five saves in the first, and Ashlee Stumbaugh made five in the second. Beth Szymanski had three saves for the Campers.
“The entire team can take credit for this one,” said Fort Hill coach Shera Rowan. “Everybody did their part to get this win.”
Fort Hill won the jayvee game 1-0 on a second-half goal by Ashlan Thompson.
Fort Hill (8-4) hosts BW on Wednesday. Allegany (2-9-1, 1-3 City) plays at Southern on Tuesday.

FROSTBURG — Mountain Ridge clinched at least a tie for the Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference crown and collected its sixth straight shutout by beating Frankfort 5-0 in high school girls soccer Saturday at Mountain Ridge.
Kaylee DeVore and Stephanie Fazenbaker did all of the scoring for the Miners. Fazenbaker was responsible for the final three goals of the first half, getting the first on a penalty kick and the last two on assists from Kayla Williams and Amber Ravenscroft.
DeVore scored the first and final goals of the afternoon. The first was assisted by Fazenbaker, and the second was assisted by Shyler Phillips.
Heather Shipe made seven saves in the win and has not allowed a goal since a 2-1 win over Southern on Sept. 17. Steffani Shingle had 10 saves for the Falcons.
Mountain Ridge, 12-0 overall and 7-0 in the AMAC, will host Northern in a make-up game on Wednesday. A win or a tie against Fort Hill on Oct. 26 will give the Miners the outright conference championship.
Frankfort ends the regular at 9-3-3 overall, and 4-3 in the AMAC. The Falcons begin West Virginia Class AA/A sectional playoffs on Monday.
