February 28, 2010 — FROSTBURG — Heather Shipe and Stephanie Fazenbaker combined for 29 points and 10 assists as third-seeded Mountain Ridge had an easy time with sixth-seeded Hancock, beating the Panthers 67-15 in the first round of the Class 1A West sectional playoff tournament.
Mountain Ridge (14-7) will play at second-seeded Allegany on Monday at 7 p.m. Last night’s other first-round game, between Fort Hill and Southern, was postponed again and rescheduled for Monday, at Southern, at 5 p.m.
Shipe hit seven field goals and a foul shot for a game-high 16 points. Fazenbaker made three field goals and went 6-for-6 from the foul line for 13 points. Both had five assists.
Madi Nightengale added 10 points, Erin Lewis nine and Emily Greig eight. Shae Winner had six points and 11 rebounds.
Brianna Swisher led Hancock (8-14) with five points.

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. — Jess Haynes scored 22 points and pulled down nine rebounds to power Berkeley Springs to a 52-50 win over Frankfort in the Class AA, Region 2, Section 1 championship game Friday evening.
Deidra Burch chipped in with 13 points for the Indians (16-5), who held off a Frankfort comeback bid after building an 8-point lead in the fourth quarter.
Mikala Miller scored 18 points and Saydi Whiteman had 10 for Frankfort (7-12).
Berkeley Springs, which had beaten Frankfort 51-40 and 60-44 during the regular season, will play the Region 2, Section 2 runner-up, while Frankfort will play the Region 2, Section 2 champion on Thursday.
Mountain Ridge wins jayvee tournament
FROSTBURG — Most Valuable Player Carlie Lewis scored 11 points to lead Mountain Ridge to a 35-30 win over Fort Hill on Thursday evening in the championship game of the Miners’ Jayvee Tournament.
Alesha Jackson had a game-high 15 points for Fort Hill.
Mountain Ridge beat Bishop Walsh 30-25 in the opening round, with Lewis scoring 10 points for the Miners and Becca Winner and Megan Ruppenkamp getting eight for the Spartans.
Fort Hill beat Southern 39-31 in the other opening round game. Leah Yurko had 15 points for Fort Hill and Hannah Horne scored 16 for Southern.
Lewis and Jocelyn Hoffman of Mountain Ridge, Jackson of Fort Hill, Horne of Southern and Winner of BW were named to the all-tournament team.
