Fort Hill’s 4th beats BW, 60-50

February 26, 2010 — CUMBERLAND — Bishop Walsh held onto the lead for the first three quarters, but Fort Hill put together a rally in the fourth to pull out a 60-50 victory in the final Cumberland City game of the season.

Destiny James and Molly Mandell both scored 12 points for the Sentinels, who scored 21 points in the fourth quarter to rally. Alyssia Twigg and Kassi Smith both scored 11 points in the win.

The Spartans worked their way to a 17-13 lead in the first quarter, and were ahead 30-27 at halftime. Bishop Walsh carried a 43-29 edge into the fourth before foul trouble thinned the Spartans already short bench. The Sentinels used that to build a 4-point lead before Bishop Walsh was forced to foul.

For Bishop Walsh, Ashley Turnbull scored a game-high 17 points. Abby Wolfe and Abbie Mathews both scored 11 points, and Alice Helmstetter added nine.

Fort Hill is 6-13 overall, 4-8 in the Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference and finishes 2-2 in City play. Bishop Walsh (5-17, 0-12 AMAC, 0-4 City) plays in a tournament at West Virginia School for the Deaf today at Saturday.
