Stuart P. Durst Sr. [Keyser]

KEYSER, W.Va. — Stuart P. Durst Sr., 78, of HC 72, Keyser, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, at the Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home.

Born on Aug. 9, 1931, at Cumberland, Md., he was a son of the late Alpheus Gordon and Laura June (Cookson) Durst. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Alpheus Durst Jr. and Michael Durst.

Mr. Durst was a 1949 graduate of Keyser High School and attended Potomac State College and the West Virginia Institute of Technology. He was formerly employed as a fireman with the B & O Railroad and was the owner and operator of the Phillips 66 Service Station on Mineral Street in Keyser for many years. He retired after 13 years as an auto mechanics instructor at the Mineral County Vocational Technical Center.

Mr. Durst was a member of the Keyser Presbyterian Church, was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member of Nancy Hanks Post 3518, V.F.W., Keyser. He was also a member of the West Virginia Education Association, Mineral County Retired School Em-ployees and was a former member and past president of the Keyser Lions Club.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Anna Lee (Clark) Durst; his son, Stuart P. Durst Jr. and wife Julie of Washington, D.C.; a daughter, Kelley Ann Durst of Atlanta, Ga.; two grandchildren, Abbey and Stuart Durst; and two sisters, Barbara Shaffer of Vermilion, Ohio, and Connie Stickley of Salt Lake City, Utah.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home immediately following the visitation at 5:30 p.m. with Pastor Kenneth Ours officiating.

The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Keyser Emergency Medical Services, 236 S. Water St., Keyser, WV 26726.
