CUMBERLAND — Professor Louie & The Crowmatix from Woodstock, N.Y., will perform at the Allegany Arts Council, 9 N. Centre St., Saturday at 8 p.m. as part of the One Tree, Many Branches of Expression Cultural Arts Series.
Aaron Hurwitz, Hammond organ/keyboards/ac-cordion and vocalist, was tagged “Professor Louie” by The Band vocalist/bassist Rick Danko while performing together as a duo. Hurwitz co-produced, engineered and performed on The Band’s last three CDs, “Jericho,” “High On The Hog” and “Jubilation.” Other credits include two CDs with Ireland’s Four Men and A Dog, The David Nelson Band’s “Visions Under The Moon,” Danko’s “Live On Breeze Hill” and “Times Like These,” and with The Crowmatix on “The Sea To The North” by Garth Hudson.
According to a review in The Village Voice, “Professor Louie’s ensemble is an Americana template that jams out timeless rock, country, blues and New Orleans influenced originals”.
Said The Record Review: “A tasty mix of rhythm and blues and rock ’n’ roll. This is a great band!”
Advance discount tickets for the show are available at the arts council and will be available at the door as well. For more information, call (301) 777-2787 or visit www.onetreeproductions.org.
Complimentary refreshments will be served from 7:30 to 8 p.m., and the artwork of Meggin Bittner and Daniel Jimerfield may be viewed in the Saville Gallery.
The concert is sponsored, in part, by a grant from the arts council, which is funded by a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council.
