FROSTBURG — In a benefit performance to assist the organ transplant fund for Patrick Barry, a former Frostburg resident, members of Western Maryland’s original sketch comedy/improvisation troupe “Those Guys” are leaving the comfort of Cumberland’s New Embassy Theatre to bring their wacky brand of hilarity to Mountain Ridge High School Auditorium Saturday at 7 p.m.
The hour-long, family-friendly show — “Going Off the Deep End” — will feature characters both familiar and never seen before. The audience will be invited to be part of the action with the improv portion of the show.
“We’re pleased to be able to help Patrick in the only way we know how — by performing on-stage and making people laugh,” said group member Mark Ashby. “If you’ve seen a ‘Those Guys’ show before, you’ll know we’re not above going the extra mile to bring that laughter out of people, no matter what it takes. We enjoy involving the audience in the show so that they’re not just passively watching; they’re actively participating.”
“Those Guys,” in addition to the five performers, include local writers such as Fred Julien and Blair Llewellyn; and create their own material that can be found nowhere else. Audience members will be treated to the antics of cantakerous senior citizens Cletus and Maude Cresap, a woman who just can’t kick her Facebook habit, and a hapless father who just wants to read a bedtime story to his overly picky son; among many others.
Tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door before the event. The cost for children under 12 years of age is half that of adults.
Proceeds will go directly to the Northwest Liver Transplant Fund in honor of Patrick Barry, and all contributions are tax-deductible.
