— ROMNEY, W.Va. — The Bottling Works, 426 E. Main St., will host a classic country music show with George Park Jr. and friends.
The event, set for 7:30 p.m. on March 20, will be a special fundraiser for The Loy Foundation, which operates the community cultural center.
The special show will feature Park, a veteran musician and recording artist who plays pedal steel and lead guitar, along with singing the classic country hits from the 1960s and ’70s. Park spent many years in the music business backing up numerous Nashville stars, some of which can be seen on his Web site at www.georgeparkjr.com.
He is the manager of WVSB, 104.1 FM in Romney, better known as “Classic Country 104.”
His first record was re-leased in 1978 when he was only 18 years old. Park also plays mandolin, electric bass guitar and drums. He is also a singer/songwriter, having released five compact discs of his own.
He has shared the stage with entertainers like The Kendalls, Pam Tillis, Lorrie Morgan, Freddy Weller, Reba McEntire, Don Gibson, Billy Crash Craddock, Jerry Lee Lewis, Joe Maphis, and Hank Williams’ Drifting Cowboys Band. He is regularly featured as part of Country Store Opry, which will play at The Bottling Works the following Saturday night, March 27, and last fall appeared on the Wheeling Jamboree.
Also joining Park will be southern gospel recording artist Cindy Sites. She has had many chart releases while signed with nationally-known Gloryland Re-cords, including her signature song, “To Obey Him.” Sites started out locally with the Ullery Family gospel singers. Her brother, Dean Ullery, and his wife Karen will be playing and singing on the show. They are also members of the original Ullery Family.
Cindy’s husband, Trent, will play drums. He has played bass guitar on the road with Cindy for many years.
Also performing will be Loretta Hummel and Peggy Osman. Hummel is from Frostburg and has two CDs to her credit. She has the classic country sound of Kitty Wells. Osman is from Springfield, and recorded singles in Nashville. She has a reputation of performing the music of Patsy Cline.
