CUMBERLAND — Tickets are still available for the third annual Gilchrist Garden Gala, which will be held Saturday evening at the Gilchrist Gallery, 104 Washington St.
The early 19th-century federal mansion features six renovated galleries, an art library and landscaped gardens.
Dr. Matthew Allaway will serve as auctioneer during the event that begins at 7 p.m.. One of the items that will be included in the auction is a limited-edition humidor from the Joe Hardy collection, which is the first humidor commissioned by the NFL and features a signed print from accomplished pop artist Charles Fazzino depicting the 44th Super Bowl between the Saints and Colts.
Other auction items include custom-made clothing, hand-rolled cigars and collectible wines from the cellars of Gilchrist Gallery supporters. Many pieces of original art will be included in the sale, with one of the highlights of the evening being a piece of burnt art created by Paul Chojnowski during the event with his painting tool, a blowtorch.
Chojnowski’s creation will depict a recognizable Cumberland scene and is the first of its kind for the area. Chojnowski is nationally recognized and is currently being filmed for a documentary about his unique style of art.
The candlelit gardens of the Gilchrist will be draped in crisp black and white, and those attending will find food and cocktails. The Straight Ahead Quartet will perform during the event, which is open to the public.
For more information or to obtain tickets, call Kelli at 301-268-6163.
The gallery is the setting for a rotating schedule of art exhibits from various media and theme-oriented presentations. The museum also emphasizes local and state history and culture.
The gallery currenting is hosting an exhibition of drawings and paintings by Daniel Filippone titled “Still Life,” which will run through Sept. 26.
The upper gallery also features paintings by the Western Maryland Watercolor Society.
