I am writing in regard to the letter, “This is anything but a new argument” (Oct. 30 Times-News).
Mr. Siciliano, your letter has disturbed me greatly, as you consider yourself a “religious person” and are considering joining the clergy. You seem to know a lot of scripture, but do you really have a relationship with the Lord?
You remind me of the Pharisees. They knew the scriptures and did all the “right” things, but they didn’t know Jesus when he was right there before them.
If you don’t truly believe God’s teachings, then you should reconsider being a member of the clergy.
“Teachers will be judged more harshly” (James 3:1). If you don’t plan on preaching it all, I don’t suggest you preach at all. I am sure you wouldn’t want to jeopardize someone else’s salvation.
As for the your statements concerning same-sex marriage. Just because the world says that it is OK, doesn’t make it right. As you should know, any sexual immorality is a sin. Remember Sodom and Gomorrah?
We still serve the same God. He hasn’t changed. He is the same God and we will be held accountable for what we have condoned. Just because the world has made it OK, doesn’t make it less a sin.
As followers of Christ, we are not of this world. We are to be a light in the darkness of sin. You notice I didn’t use the word Christian. It is used much too loosely nowadays. Many people who consider themselves Christians just might not make it.
Also, what about abortion? According to law, it is OK to kill innocent babies. Yes, I said babies. What about the viable so-called fetuses that are aborted everyday? They are allowed to be partially born, then killed. I’ll spare you the grisly details.
The president voted not to give food or medical care to babies who survived botched abortions. Not once, but twice. Our law says it is OK to kill babies in what amounts to torture, but Michael Vick went to jail for what he did to his dogs.
Believe me, I don’t condone what he did either, but does it make sense?
Oh, Mr. Siciliano, we are “not” to cherry pick the Bible. It is not our obligation, moral or otherwise. By the way, in Deuteronomy they weren’t to stone those to death for working on Sunday.
It was the Sabbath. The Sabbath was from Friday evening until Saturday evening. The day of the Sabbath wasn’t changed until Constantine changed it a hundred or so years after Christ.
God commands that we keep the Sabbath holy. Israel still holds to that. We did for many years, but like everything else, other things became more important.
Our country is in a bad place. God isn’t going to continue to sit back and let us decide for ourselves what is right and wrong. If you just look around at the things that have happened, you know that God has lifted his hand of protection from us.
Why? Because good people have let our leaders turn us into an immoral society.
Read the book, “The Harbinger.” It is told in a fictional story, but the facts are true. Everything that happened to Israel when they turned their backs on God, has happened to us.
What should we do? God says, “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)
