Since our beginning in 1983, 30 years ago, we have erected and restored hundreds of monuments. However, one of the most important monuments that we erected in 2004 is the Monument for the Unborn.
It was designed as a monument for the millions of children murdered through the process of legalized abortion in the United States since 1973, 40 years ago. What was interesting was how many churches in the area refused this monument to be placed in their cemeteries at our expense.
The courageous members of Davis Memorial Methodist Church on Uhl Highway invited us to place this most important monument in their cemetery.
Each year on the weekend closest to the anniversary of Jan. 22 Roe v. Wade court ruling, the Cumberland Historic Cemetery Organization holds a memorial and wreath-laying ceremony at the monument.
This year the event will take place Sunday, Jan. 20, at 2 p.m. in Davis Memorial Park, Uhl Highway.
The public is welcome to attend and the CHCO extends a special invitation to the area clergy.
