Quinton Guthrie was the area’s top bowler for the week scoring 778/275 at Par-Matt Lanes. Reuben Collins was next high at that center rolling 702/249
At The Bowler, Cary Lowery’s 757/290 was highest followed by Corey Shirey rolling a big 286 game and a 744 set. Mitch Lowery scored a big game; 296 in his 676 set.
Darren Durbin bowled 749/289 for the high mark at White Oaks for the week. Mike Corbin was next rolling 683/246.
Justin Boyer’s 693/256 was Wilson’s weekly high followed by Bob Greene’s 681/247 and Brett Stenberg’s 680/254.
In the PBA Experience League at White Oaks, Troy Cubbage was highest rolling 647/227. Mike Sipple and BJ Curtis followed bowling 615/237 and 611/237 respectively.
Autumn Gable was the area’s top lady bowler for the week scoring 619/242. Betty Gable was next rolling 552/192.
Renee Edmiston was highest of the ladies at The Bowler scoring 597/224. Ruth Booth was next rolling 583/203.
Nancy Glotfelty and Bonnie Carr were Par-Matt’s top ladies. Glotfelty bowled 581/223 and Carr rolled 509/209.
Senior, Jug Bittinger rolled 574/213 at The Bowler. John Barbe bowled 564/203. Karen Rexrode scored 489/190. At Par-Matt, seniors Larry Coddington bowled 558/214 and Tom Mirras scored 558/192. Dorothy Scheonly rolled 485/180.
There were no youth scores reported for the week.
Spare shooting is still the major problem with most average bowlers. Practice is certainly a major factor but the delivery is also a problem for many. You need to focus on your target, start your delivery with the ball in line with your shoulder and your target, push straight towards your target then relax so that gravity takes over on the downswing. Your knee on the sliding foot should be bent during the forward swing of the ball. This keeps your shoulders ahead of the ball during release and follow-through. I like to see bowlers keep some weight on the non sliding foot; drag the toe to help staying balanced during the critical release time.

Rowley proof of experience breeding opportunity
When Bob Rowley learned of the fund-raising efforts to help provide Fort Hill football player Zac Elbin the opportunity to play in the Down Under Bowl this summer in Australia, it became a mere reflex for him to make a significant contribution on Elbin’s behalf. For while very few area high school football players have followed in his footsteps, Rowley, the former Fort Hill great from the late 1950s, had certainly walked in Elbin’s, having faced similar circumstances following his senior year in high school. And thanks to the support of the community, Rowley says he was able to realize an opportunity of a lifetime.
