ERIE, Pa. — Alyssa Zemla smacked a solo home run over the left field fence in the bottom of the fourth inning to lift third-seeded Medaille to a 1-0 victory over the sixth-seeded Frostburg State University in the opening game of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament on Friday at Penn State Behrend.
Zemla, who struck out in her other two plate appearances, led off the fourth inning with her ninth homer of the season.
Holley McAllister and Kristen Rohe led Medaille (19-16) with two hits apiece.
Frostburg State (23-16) had just three hits, including a second-inning double by former Mountain Ridge standout Jenna Delaney.
Megan Magee had a strong outing, scattering eight hits and striking out eight, but was tagged with the loss. Amanda Westling got the win with a three-hit shutout and nine strikeouts.
Frostburg State will play this morning, at 9 o’clock, against the loser of last night’s Medaille-Mt. Aloysius game.
