KEYSER, W.Va. — Aaryka Anglin tossed a three-hitter in the first game and a late-inning rally fell a run short in the second as Potomac State split a doubleheader with Hagerstown Monday afternoon at PSC.
The Catamounts won the opener 6-0 as Anglin scattered three singles while striking out three and walking two to get the shutout victory. She was backed by 13 hits with four teammates — Morgan Shockey, Kayla Stickel, Brittany Wright and Shelia Armel — each getting two singles. Shockey had two RBIs and Armel one.
The Catamounts led 3-0 after the second inning, 5-0 after the third, and 6-0 with a run in the fourth.
In the 4-3 second game loss, Hagerstown broke a 1-1 tie with two outs in the top of the seventh and runners on second and third on an error on a ground ball. Amanda Waltman’s base hit scored two more runs, giving Hagerstown a 4-1 lead.
In the bottom of the inning, the Catamounts pulled to within one on one-out RBI singles by Shockey and Kayla Watts. A flyout to short and a ground out to second ended the rally with runners at second and third.
Kayla Stickel struck out four with two walks and allowed six hits. She also had two hits, a single and a double, to account for a third of the team’s hits.
Potomac State (20-14), the Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference champion, will host the Pennsylvania championship by playing the Eastern champion beginning Saturday morning at 10 a.m. Additional details will appear in Friday’s Times-News.
