WINCHESTER, Va. — The Frostburg State University softball team managed just two hits as it was swept in a non-conference doubleheader with Shenandoah, 9-0 and 5-0, in college softball on Thursday.
The Bobcats (22-13) registered just one hit in the opener, a fourth-inning single by Brooke Tapman . Meanwhile, the Hornets scored a run in the first inning and ended the contest in five innings after an eight-run fourth.
In game two, Megan Magee singled to left-center for the only other Frostburg State hit of the day.
Shenandoah starters combined for 19 strikeouts in 12 innings in the twinbill.
Frostburg State will host Stevenson on Senior Day on Sunday at 3 p.m.
Catonsville 8 14
Potomac State 5 5
CATONSVILLE — Potomac State fell victim to the big inning in both games at Catonsville.
The Catamounts jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first in the opener, but Catonsville answered with a run in the bottom half of the first, and four in the third to take control of the game.
Desiree Sullivan had three doubles and four runs batted in for Catonsville.
For the Catamounts, Sheila Armel had two singles and a double, while Kayla Stickel doubled and singled, and Brittany Kolb singled and tripled.
In the second game, Catonsville put up a nine-run second and five-run fourth.
Katie Blackston hit a three-run home run in the nine-run second. For the Catamounts, Armel singled and doubled and knocked in two, and Kayla Watts singled and doubled.
Potomac State (19-13) will host Hagerstown Monday in a 3 p.m. makeup game.
