YOUNGWOOD, Pa. — Potomac State captured its second consecutive Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference Tournament by beating host Westmoreland in the second game of the finals.
The Catamounts needed to win just once to get the title after sending Westmoreland to the losers bracket on Saturday. The Wolfpack got a 6-3 win in the first game, but ran out of steam and PSC rolled to a 10-0 win in the second.
Kayla Stickel hit a three-run home run in the top of the sixth that forced the mercy rule and gave the Cats the championship. She would add a single as she got two of the team’s 13 hits. Brittany Wright had two singles and two RBIs, and Shelia Armel singled three times. Brittany Kolb singled twice.
Stickel also earned the victory with the shutout. She recorded no strikeouts, but walked only one batter and allowed just two hits.
“It was one of our goals this season to repeat as conference champs,” said Potomac State coach Jim Walton. “It always nice when you meet one of your goals. Our team is only getting better and we look to take the next step towards the next goal.”
Potomac State stranded 10 runners in the 6-3 loss in the early game.
Amanda Waiteman singled twice and Bree Acalatto hit a double.
Shelia Armel and Taylor Butts had two singles in the loss.
The Cats return to the field today at 3 p.m. when they host Hagerstown in a doubleheader.

Frostburg State 1 0
ERIE, Pa. — Frostburg State managed just one run as it dropped both games of a doubleheader to Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference leader Penn State Behrend Sunday afternoon.
The Lions (24-5, 13-0) took the early 2-0 lead after the first two batters doubled. The advantage was stretched to 6-0 after a two-out grand slam off FSU (21-12, 10-7) starter Katelyn Coffey in the bottom of the third inning.
The Bobcats responded with its only run in the fourth as Brooke Tapman led off with a single and a stolen base. Sophomore designated-hitter Victoria Krichbaum drove Tapman home two batters later with a single.
Behrend took a seven-run advantage in the bottom of the fourth inning, but the game ending blow came in the form of a walk-off home run off the bat of Maddie Weiser in the bottom of the fifth stopped play at 9-1.
Coffey (8-9) gave up nine runs on 12 hits in just 4 1-3 innings while freshman Jenna Delaney led FSU’s hitting with two singles.
In the second contest, freshman pitcher Megan Magee faced off with the Lions’ Emma Hahn.
Behrend took advantage of the leadoff hitters in each the second and third innings each singled and scored for a 2-0 advantage and eventual final score.
Hahn kept the Bobcats’ bats silent as she took a no-hitter into the sixth before Krichbaum knotched the Bobcats only hit with one out in the sixth.
Frostburg State visits Shenandoah Thursday in Winchester, Va. for a 3 p.m. non-conference game.

Allegany 4 3
CUMBERLAND — Frederick had a total of 41 hits and 27 runs Sunday afternoon as the Cougars swept Allegany College of Maryland at Cavanaugh Field.
Frederick scored in every inning but the second and seventh innings to grab an eight-run win in the first game, and scored 10 runs over the final two innings of the second to complete the sweep.
Danielle Naille and Jamie Holden both had three hits, two singles and a double for the Cougars in the opener. Naille was also the winning pitcher, throwing a complete game.
Allegany was led by Jami Norris going 3-for-3 with a triple, and Renee Musselman hit a triple and a single.
The second game saw Holden and Naille doing most of the damage again. Holden hit three singles, and Naille had a double and two singles.
Norris hit a double for the Trojans, adding to her first- game total.
Allegany (2-10 overall, JUCO) plays Southern Maryland at home on Wednesday.
