Cecil sweeps Allegany

CUMBERLAND — Katie Ferguson achieved perfection Thursday retiring all 21 batters she faced in the first game of a doubleheader Cecil swept from the Allegany College of Maryland Trojans.

Ferguson’s line read seven innings pitched, no hits allowed, with no runs, no walks and 11 strikeouts. The Seahawks backed Ferguson by scoring one run in the first, one in the fourth and another in the fifth. They then erupted for five in the sixth for the 8-0 victory.

Macie Holliston hit a double and a single, while Val Nichols had two singles.

The Trojans got onto the scoreboard in the fifth inning of game two, but the Seahawks paced themselves to six runs to complete the sweep, 6-3.

Monica Rosensteel hit a double and a single for the Trojans, while Rene Musselman hit a double.

For Cecil, Mandy Thomas hit two doubles, and Ferguson hit two singles.

Allegany (2-2) will host Hagerstown today at 3 p.m.



La Roche beats Frostburg State 8-0, Frostburg State wins second game 3-1

PITTSBURGH — Sophomore Victoria Krichbaum and freshman Jenna Delaney, from Mountain Ridge, each drove home RBIs in a 3-1 second game win for Frostburg State as it earned a split in AMCC action with La Roche Wednesday.

The Bobcats dropped the opener 8-0 in six innings.

In the second contest, the Bobcats (16-7, 5-2) scored two runs in the top of the first for an early 2-0 lead when freshman Brooke Speake scored on an error and Krichbaum singled home sophomore Brooke Tapman.

The two clubs exchanged runs in the fifh inning. Delaney singled home Krichbaum for the lone FSU run while Jennifer Hawkins singled home the only run for La Roche (13-11, 7-3).

Freshman Megan Magee earned the win for FSU allowing one earned run in seven innings. Jessica Cullum took the loss for La Roche after giving up three runs on five hits.

The Bobcats dropped the opener 8-0 as La Roche scored four runs in the fourth and four more in the bottom of the sixth.

Autumn Hubert finished 1-for-3 with three RBIs while Kayla Strittmater was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a home run.

Frostburg State hosts Hilbert Saturday at 1 p.m.
