CUMBERLAND — Monica Rosensteel homered in a four-run first inning in the opener, and Renee Musselman tossed a five-inning one-hitter in the second, lifting Allegany College to a 6-2, 12-1 sweep of Montgomery-Rockville Wednesday at Cavanaugh Field.
Because of poor weather and field conditions, the doubleheader was the long-awaited debut for the Trojans, who were scheduled to have opened the season on March 28.
Coach Mike Baker’s team wasted little time in getting the upperhand in both games. The Trojans led 5-1 after two innings of the first game, and 8-0 after two innings of the second.
“We hit the ball really well, and the pitching was pretty good, but we had too many errors,’’ said Baker. “But for the first two games of the season, and having to start this late, the girls did a good job today.”
Courtney Trainor hurled a four-hitter, walked only one and struck out eight in the first game.
Trainor smacked a two-run double and was aboard when Rosensteel homered in the four-run first inning.
Martina Kurtz finished 3-for-4, Jami Norris tripled and singled and Tamara Metz singled twice for the Trojans, who had 12 hits.
In the nitecap, Kurtz went 3-for-3 with a triple, double and single and finished 6-for-7 for the day. Trainor also went 3-for-3 in game two with a triple, double and single. Musselman doubled and singled.
Musselman allowed only a fifth-inning double to Sierra McDowell. She walked one and struck out two.
The Trojans play again today, at Cavanaugh, in a 3 p.m. twinbill against Cecil.

KEYSER, W.Va. — Aaryka Anglin pitched a five-inning no-hitter, blanking Community College of Beaver Campus, 11-0, as Potomac State College put up a 10-run third inning to take the first of two Wednesday afternoon at Potomac State.
The Catamounts completed the doubleheader sweep with another five-inning victory in the second game, topping Beaver, 13-4.
In the opener, Anglin struck out eight and walked one for the Catamounts. The walk came in the fourth inning and permitted Beaver its only baserunner of the game.
“Her location was excellent,” Potomac State coach Jim Walton said of Anglin. “She had good location, kept the ball low, and used her changeup to complement her fastball.”
Shelia Armel led Potomac State at the plate with two singles and two runs batted in. Kayla Stickel and Morgan Shockey both had two singles and an RBI.
Armel had two singles and a double to knock in five runs to lead Potomac State to the victory in the second game. Shockey and Brittany Kolb both doubled and singled to knock in two for the Catamounts.
Stickel got the win for Potomac State, giving up no earned runs. Beaver’s four runs came in the fourth with the help of three PSC errors. Stickel scattered three singles, struck out seven and walked three.
Potomac State (14-10) will play Tuesday, 2 p.m., at home against Erie CC.
