GREENSBURG, Pa. — Despite another home run from sophomore Brooke Tapman and six RBIs from Samantha Quirin, the Frostburg State softball team lost to Pitt-Greensburg, 6-4, in the first game of their Monday afternoon college softball doubleheader.
The second game was tied 7-7 when it was suspended by darkness after seven innings.
In the opener, Pitt-Greensburg (11-8, 6-1 AMCC) broke a 1-1 tie with a five-run fourth inning. Haley Gearhart, Kelly Welsh, Taylor Kimmell and Jennifer Dempsey had RBI singles in the big inning.
Frostburg State (15-6, 4-1) plated three in the top of the seventh, including a two-run home run from Tapman to get to within 6-4 but could get no closer.
Katelyn Coffey, who hit her first homer of the year, suffered the loss despite allowing only two earned runs. Greensburg’s Kimmell had seven strikeouts and recorded her eighth win.
Frostburg led 7-1 after five innings of the nitecap, but Greensburg scored six times in the final two innings to tie it.
Quirin hit a three-run homer and an RBI double for the Bobcats.
Frostburg State plays at LaRoche today at 3 p.m.
