YOUNGWOOD, Pa. — Potomac State dropped its second doubleheader in as many days and fifth game in a row after losing 7-5 and 6-3 to Westmoreland Community College Wednesday evening.
The Catamounts put on a fierce seventh inning rally during the first game, but stranded runners on first and second after scoring four times to pull within one run. Shelia Armel had three singles and two runs batted in for Potomac.
Emily Sprankle got the win in a complete game for the Wolfpack, while adding a solo home run in the third inning. Laura McCarley added two singles.
Westmoreland scored all five of its runs over the second and third innings in its second game victory.
Petersburg graduate Kayla Watts led PSC with two singles, a double and a run batted in.
The Cats built a 2-0 lead with a run in each of the first two innings, but the Wolfpack tied it in the bottom of the second.
The five straight losses moves Potomac State to .500 at 10-10. The losses were the first in the Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference for PSC, now 4-2. They will host Garrett today in a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
