FROSTBURG, — Sophomore outfielder Brooke Tapman homered three times to power Frostburg State past Franciscan, 12-4 and 10-2, in a pair of five-inning Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference softball victories on Friday.
Tapman was 5-for-5 for the day with six runs scored and seven runs driven in for the Bobcats (12-4, 2-0), who have won six of their last seven. First-year conference member Franciscan fell to 0-10, and 0-2.
Tapman was 3-for-3 in the second game, with an RBI single in the first inning and home runs in the second and third. The homer in the third inning was a three-run shot during a five-run outburst that broke open a tight game.
Lindsay Freitag was 6-for-7 with two triples, a double, four runs scored and three RBIs, and Brooke Speake went 5-for-7 with a triple and five runs scored.
Meanwhile, the Barons fall to 0-10 overall and 0-2 in their first year in the AMCC.
Katelyn Coffey (5-3) got the win in the first game, tossing three scoreless innings and striking out seven. Megan Magee (7-1) won the nitecap, allowing two unearned runs in four innings and lowering her earned run average to 0.57.
Frostburg State’s will host Penn State Altoona on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
