KEYSER, W.Va. — Kayla Stickel hit a grand slam in an 11-run first inning that carried Potomac State to a 13-4 win over Frederick in the first game of their college softball doubleheader on Friday.
Frederick earned a split by winning the second game 12-8.
The Catamounts (10-6) got three home runs in the opener, as Shelia Armel and Kayla Watts smacked solo shots. Armel finished with a homer and single and Lisa Barry had two singles.
Aaryka Anglin scattered eight hits for the win in the five-inning mercy rule shortened game.
Danielle Naille hit a solo homer for Frederick.
In the second game Frederick built a big early lead and held off the Catamounts for the win.
Naille, who pitched all seven innings, hit a three-run homer in the first inning and also singled twice for the Cougars, who had 14 hits. Jamie Holden also homered for Frederick, which led 11-3 after three innings.
Morgan Shockey doubled and singled and Samantha Haines singled twice for Potomac State.
The Catamounts host Westmoreland on Sunday in a noon doubleheader.
