Magee, Tapman lift FSU to split

FROSTBURG — Brooke Tapman belted her third home run of the season, and Megan Magee hurled a two-hit shutout to lead Frostburg State to a 3-0 win over Washington & Jefferson in the first game of their college softball doubleheader Wednesday afternoon.

Washington & Jefferson earned a split by winning the nitecap, 2-0.

Magee, a freshman named the Allegheny Mountain Athletic Conference pitcher of the week on Monday, earned her second shutout of the season. She allowed just two singles, struck out three and walked two.

Tapman homered in the third inning, helping the Bobcats (10-4) to an early 2-0 lead.

Rebecca Nachreiner had a four-hitter and 10 strikeouts for Washington & Jefferson (4-10).

In the second game, Katelyn Coffey hurled a three-hitter, allowed just one earned run, and struck out five but was tagged with the loss.

Tapman led all Frostburg State hitters with a 3-for-6 afternoon, while adding two RBIs and a run scored. In the first game, Samantha Quirin went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
