CLERMONT, Fla. — Brooke Tapman had four hits, including a pair of doubles and three runs batted in to lead Frostburg State to a 14-1 rout of Pine Manor (Mass.) in college softball Wednesday at the NTC Spring Games.
The win gave Frostburg a split on the day as the Bobcats lost to Bethel (Minn.) 4-2. It was the first FSU loss in six outings in the Spring Games.
The Frostburg State win came in a five-inning game against Pine Manor. The Bobcats (6-3) took control early, scoring five runs in the first inning.
Megan Magee earned the win, allowing only one hit and an unearned run while striking out nine in five innings. She was also 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs.
Victoria Krichbaum went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Samantha Quirin doubled and singled and Brook Speake doubled. Both knocked in two runs.
In the loss to Bethel (3-5), the Royals scored three runs in the fourth inning to break a 1-1 tie.
Katelyn Coffey suffered the loss for Frostburg State. She pitched five innings and gave up four runs, with only one being earned. Magee struck out four in her two innings of relief.
Quirin homered and Jayme Miller had a double and an RBI for the Bobcats.
Frostburg State plays Morrisville (N.J.) State at 3:30 and Babson (Mass.) at 5:30 today.
Potomac State wins two of three
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Lisa Barry’s two-run single in the bottom of the fifth inning helped Potomac State take two of its three games played Wednesday in the Snowbird Classic at Myrtle Beach.
The Catamounts started the day by getting strong pitching and hitting in a 9-1 win over Cumberland (N.J.). They struggled in the field to allow three unearned runs and lose 3-0 to Southwestern (Iowa) in the second game, before Barry’s hit sent them to a 9-8 win over Rochester (Minn).
Aaryka Anglin yielded just three hits and one earned run in a complete-game effort against Cumberland. Brittany Kolb hit a three-run triple as part of a five-run fourth inning that gave PSC a 7-0 lead. Kayla Stickel hit a double and a single, while Morgan Shockey and Taylor Butts had one double each. Butts also drove in two runs.
Anglin and Rochelle Wolford held Southwestern to only two hits, but the Cats committed four errors in the field to allow three unearned runs to score.
For Potomac, Brittany Wright doubled while Shelia Armel and Barry had one single apiece.
The Catamounts got some revenge with the win over Rochester, after the Yellowjackets used three errors in the seventh inning to beat Potomac State 7-4 on Sunday.
Armel led the team with four RBIs on a pair of hits, and Stickel had two doubles and two RBIs.
The Cats entered the sixth inning trailing 8-4, but scored five times during the at-bats to take the lead. Stickel struck out all three batters in the top of the seventh to earn the win.
Potomac State is now 3-2 in Myrtle Beach, and is 3-4 overall. They play Alfred State today at 8 a.m., and Northampton at 10 a.m.

Grace’s Clouse sinks PSC with homer
