CLERMONT, Fla. — The Frostburg State softball team defeated Suffolk University, 6-2, and Concordia University Wisconsin, 9-3, on its first day at the NTC Spring games Sunday in Clermont Florida.
In the first game, FSU (4-2) jumped out to an early 3-1 lead over Suffolk (1-2) during the first inning. The Bobcats added a run in the fourth and two in the sixth while the Rams scored only one more run in the seventh for a 6-2 Frostburg State victory.
Junior Katelyn Coffey earned the win after pitching seven innings for the Bobcats. She struck out seven hitters, gave up three hits and only one of the two runs scored was earned. Coffey also was 2-for-2 at the plate with one run scored.
Junior Lindsay Freitag finished 1-for-1 with one RBI and a double and freshman Beth Whitehead went 1-for-2, registering two RBIs and a run scored.
Freshman Jenna Delaney, from Mountain Ridge High School, had three hits and recorded two RBIs against the Rams.
In the second game against Concordia (2-6), the Falcons scored their three runs in the first inning and the Bobcats answered with eight runs in the second to on its way to a 9-3 victory.
Freshman Megan Magee earned the win. She struck out three and allowed six hits with only two coming after the first inning.
Leading the Bobcats in hitting in the second game was sophomore Brooke Tapman. Tapman was 1-for-3 with one home run and an RBI. Victoria Krichbaum went 3-for-4, tacking on an RBI.
Freshman Brooke Speake had four hits and an RBI while Delaney was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Frostburg State faces UMass-Boston at 1 p.m. and Bethany at 3:30 p.m. today at the NTC Spring Games in Clermont Florida.
Rochester 7
Potomac State 4
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Three errors in the seventh inning aided three Rochester, Minn. runs to score on its way to defeat Potomac State Sunday during the first game of their Spring Break trip.
Potomac State (0-3) led 3-1 after three innings but a three-run home run by Alyssa Mackey gave Rochester a 4-3 lead. The Catamounts tied it with a single run in the fifth before their errors gave Rochester the win.
Brittany Wright was Potomac State’s leading hitter with a first inning solo home run and a double. Sheila Armel had a single and a double.
Potomac State will play two games today. The first will be at 9:30 a.m. against the Community College of Morris. At 11:30 a.m., PSC plays North Hampton out of Bethlehem, Pa.

Grace’s Clouse sinks PSC with homer
