KEYSER, W.Va. — Cecil College spoiled Potomac State College’s season and home softball opener Friday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep.
In the first game, nine of the Seahawks’ 10 runs were due to home runs in their 10-4 victory. In the second game, defense and timely hitting led to a 6-0 victory.
In the opener, Amanda Thomas and Jill Lawson each hit three-run home runs and Brittany Schultz belted a two-run home run. Thomas’ homer was in the second inning and Lawson’s came in the sixth. Jackie Amend had a solo home run.
Potomac State was led at the plate by Sheila Armel’s double and Morgan Shockey’s two hits, one a double.
Katie Ferguson picked up the win and Aaryka Anglin took the loss.
In the second game, Cecil took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, made it 3-0 with Katie Ferguson’s solo home run in the third inning, and took a comfortable lead with its three-run sixth inning.
Ferguson also had three singles and Macy Hollister had two hits.
Taylor Butts, a Bishop Walsh graduate, had two singles and Bedford’s Kayla Stickel had a double.
Potomac State (0-2) plays Monday in the Snowbird Classic in Myrtle Beach.
