Medaille wins both over Frostburg State

Amanda Baker homered in each game and finished with four hits, three runs batted in and three runs scored to lead Medaille (N.Y.) to a 4-3, 9-5 sweep of Frostburg State in their Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference doubleheader.

In the first game, which went 10 innings, Leigh Ann Superczynski, who had singled in a run in the eighth, drove in the winning run with a groundout in the 10th for the Mavericks (15-13, 11-1 AMCC).

Amanda Baldwin hit her team-leading sixth home run of the season, a two-run shot. Baldwin, now tied for the school record for home runs in a season, also singled.

Medaille tied the game in the sixth on a home run by Baker.

After Medaille went ahead 3-2 on Superczynski’s single in the top of the eighth, the Bobcats tied it in the bottom of the inning on an infield error.

Katelyn Coffey, who opened with five shutout innings, absorbed the loss. She pitched all 10 innings, allowed two earned runs and six hits while striking out 10.

In the second game, Medaille took control quickly with a six-run first inning.

Courtney Kryszak hit a three-run double in the big first inning, and Baker hit a solo homer in the second.

Victoria Krichbaum hit a two-run single and Brooke Tapman followed with a two-run double as Frostburg tried to rally with a four-run fourth. Megan Dabkowski had an RBI single in the fifth for the final FSU run.

Tapman finished the day 5-for-8 with two doubles, three RBIs and two stolen bases in leading the Bobcats.

Frostburg State plays a single game at Penn State Altoona on Monday at 4 p.m.
