Magee, Henne lead FSU over La Roche

CRESSON, Pa. — Megan Magee fired a three-hit shutout and Megan Henne went 2-for-2 and knocked in a pair of runs to lift second-seeded Frostburg State to a 3-0 win over sixth-seeded La Roche in the opening round of the Allegheny Mountain Athletic Conference tournament on Friday.

The Bobcats, who made the most of five singles to win a single-season school record 27th game, will play top-seeded and tournament host Mt. Aloysius today.

Magee allowed only three singles and struck out five in raising her personal mark to 16-8.

Frostburg State (27-14) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Victoria Krichbaum walked, moved to second on a single by Henne and scored on an error by the left fielder.

It remained just a 1-0 game until the Bobcats scored a pair of insurance runs. Krichbaum led off with a walk and Vandegrift reached on a throwing error. After a sacrifice bunt by Megan Butzner, Henne stroked a two-run single up the middle to make it 3-0.

Vandegrift, Samantha Quirin and Lindsey Freitag had the only other hits for Frostburg State.

Autumn Herbert had two singles for La Roche (17-18). Kara Jo Egelsky absorbed the loss, allowing only five hits and one earned run. She walked three and fanned eight.
