Ross among central Pennsylvania’s ‘Top 100’

Former Garrett Chamber president making splash in new position

SHAMOKIN DAM, Pa. — In its most recent issue, Pennsylvania Business Central named Charlie Ross, president and CEO of the Greater Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce, one of the “Top 100 People of 2009.”

In a year when the business journal received more nominations than ever before in the realm of economic development, the publication’s editors and writers chose a man who at the time had spent only half a year at his post.

His accomplishments in that short amount of time garnered him a spot as one of the most influential business professionals in a 16-county area.

Ross joined the chamber in mid-June after leaving his native Garrett County, Md., where he had served for seven years as president of the Garrett County Chamber of Commerce.

His arrival in the Susquehanna Valley caught the attention of the publication, which praised him for setting right to work at building “a strong team that would serve the Chamber’s members and increase the value of membership.”

The journal also noted his plans to incorporate a “Strategic Thinking” conference around the Chamber’s March 11 annual meeting. He explained to writers his plans to bring in speakers who will help business leaders view the Valley through the lenses of education, economics and politics.

“It’s gratifying to be singled out so soon for an honor like this but that is the story of the Valley: welcoming, warm, progressive and exciting.” Ross said.
