Hotel recognizes employee for dedication
CUMBERLAND — Erlinda Natale has been named employee of the second quarter at Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott — Cumberland.
Natale has been with the hotel since its opening a year ago and has proven to be a dedicated employee, according to a company news release. She works multiple departments and shifts, has never called off, and goes out of her way to ensure guests are happy.
She will receive a paid day off and gift card from the Queen City Creamery.
Garrett Chamber of Commerce plans event
MCHENRY — The Garrett County Chamber of Commerce will hold a Business After Hours event Aug. 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. at New Germany State Park.
The event will offer an opportunity for networking among businesses, employees, guests and Chamber of Commerce staff. Grantsville area businesses will have displays set up for guests as they enjoy light refreshments. Business cards may be entered to win door prizes.
There is a fee to attend. Reservations are due by Aug. 23 by e-mailing charlotte@garrettchamber.com or calling 301-387-6171.
Tickets also will be available at the door.
SECU workers man fundraiser lines for MPT
LINTHICUM — Eighteen volunteers from SECU, Maryland’s largest financial cooperative, donated their time answering phones in support of Maryland Public Television’s pledge drive on Aug. 4.
Workers wore shirts displaying their recently introduced green and black logo, and the SECU logo was featured on the bottom of the MPT screen, complete with new tag line “different direction.”
MPT’s hosts were Joe Krushinsky and Tony Hill. The featured shows were “David Garrett’s Rock Symphonies” and “Katherine Jenkins’ Believe.”
SECUālocations include National Highway, LaVale.
Savage River Lodge earns award for wine
FROSTBURG — The Savage River Lodge again has received the Wine Spectator’s award of excellence, the seventh consecutive year for the honor.
Since 1981, the award has been given to approximately 3,700 restaurants around the world annually for their elite wine selections.
The lodge’s wine list has more than 170 selections to choose from. In past years, the business has also been awarded Wine Enthusiast’s award of distinction. The list has also contributed to being named a Condé Nast Johansen property for six years in a row.
Restaurant manager Nicholas Preston continually updates the cellar.

On Nov. 20, the business will host a wine tasting featuring the celebrated Stag’s Leap Winery, including five different varietals ranging from Chardonnay to Merlot.

RCBI offers statewide technical training
ROCKET CENTER, W.Va. — A few vacant slots are still available for a new technical training class offered by the Robert C. Byrd Institute for Advanced Flexible Manufacturing.
Machinist Technology Program classes will be offered beginning Aug. 23 at Rocket Center.
RCBI’s Machinist Technology Program, the only one of its kind in West Virginia, is accredited by the National Institute for Metalworking Skills.
An important option in the program enables individuals to earn an associate of applied science degree in technical studies from a local community college, such as Mountwest (formerly Marshall) Community & Technical College in Huntington, Potomac State College of West Virginia University in Keyser or West Virginia Northern Community College in Wheeling.
