Cumberland — CountryHouse hires activity director

CUMBERLAND — CountryHouse Assisted Living Residence, a care facility for memory im-paired individuals. has added Lisa Alderton to the staff as activity director.

Alderton was born and raised in LaVale. After graduating from Allegany High School, she received her undergraduate and master’s degree from Frostburg State University in elementary education. While teaching she worked at both South Penn and Northeast elementary schools.

The mother of three daughters, Claire, Claudia and Celia, she and her family enjoy days at the pool and gardening. She is an avid reader and loves to cook. She has already engaged residents in baking homemade cookies and other treats.

 

Pilgrim’s Pride honors employee

MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — Mary Keplinger has been honored as the April Partner of the Month for the Pilgrim’s Pride Moorefield fresh plant.

Keplinger works in the shipping department on day shift and has been with the company for 15 years.

“Mary is very dependable and her attendance record is exceptional,” said Daniel Smith, her supervisor. “Her teamwork skills are excellent. She is always willing to lend a hand to other departments such as transportation and outside vendors with directions, phone numbers and paperwork.”

 

Master plumber presents DIY class

CUMBERLAND — Jon Schadt of Schadt Plumbing and Heating presented a do-it-yourself class on basic plumbing techniques as part of Cumberland Neighborhood Housing Services’ ongoing DIY Educational Series.

Schadt has been a master plumber since 1988. He and his brother Nat are the third generation to run their family business. Started by their grandfather Louis and great-uncle Edward, Nat and Jon learned the trade from their father, Homer.

The DIY Series is intended for people who would like to learn basic home improvement and repair skills. Classes are free and open to the public. The next class is planned for Sept. 8. The topic will be electric tips and the presenter will be Betsey Delozier from Big D Electric.

Community Health Charities elects chair

BALTIMORE — Community Health Charities of Maryland elected Kathy Smith as board chairwoman at its annual meeting.

Smith is ex-ecutive director of United Marriage Encounter and Marriage Encounter Support Foundation, an international, interdenominational Christian marriage ministry. Elected as vice chairman was Ron Brown, director of corporate relations and major gifts for Towson University.

Community Health Charities of Maryland works with businesses and institutions in Cumberland to provide health education services and programs.

Allstate Foundation presents CUW grant

LAVALE — Allstate agent Janey Smith recently presented a $1,000 Allstate Foundation “Agency Hands in the Community” grant to County United Way.

The Allstate Foundation is an independent, charitable organization made possible by the Allstate Insurance Co. The grants are offered in recognition of agents who volunteer in their communities.

The organization also takes part in programs promoting safe teen driving and preventing domestic violence.

 

Company will buy coins, jewelry

CUMBERLAND — B&B Estate Buyers will be at the Braddock Best Western, National Highway, LaVale on July 29 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and at the Holiday Inn, George Street, Cumberland, July 30, during those same hours.

The company pays cash for antiques, collectibles, jewelry, coins, silver, or “anything old, interesting or unusual.”

No appointment is necessary to meet with representatives.

 

AES announces stock repurchase

ARLINGTON, Va. — The board of directors of AES Corp. (NYSE: AES) has approved a stock repurchase program under which the company may repurchase up to $500 million of common stock.

The board authorization permits the company to repurchase stock from time to time until Dec. 31 through a variety of methods, including open market repurchases and/or privately negotiated transactions.

There can be no assurance as to the amount, timing or prices of repurchases, which may vary based on market conditions and other factors. The stock repurchase program may be modified, extended or terminated by the board of directors at any time.
