KEYSER, W.Va. — R.C. Pratt scored 12 points to lead Keyser to the West Virginia Class AA Region 2, Section I Championship when the Golden Tornado got the best of Frankfort, 48-41, Friday evening in a defensive battle between the two rivals.

Pratt was the only player on Keyser’s roster to break into double digits in points, but Peyton Hartman, Ethan Larue and Wes Washington all finished with nine. It was much of the same story for the Falcons, who had Logan Wolford’s 11 points go for their highest total. Darian Martz, Rob Heltzel and Dusty Myers all added six.

Myers was the leading rebounder for Frankfort with 11 boards.

Frankfort was ahead 14-9 after one quarter after cracking the Tornado’s press. Keyser came back to tie the score at 21 by halftime, and they continued to overcome the Falcons and carry a 35-30 lead into the fourth.

“It was a very defensive game on both sides,” said Frankfort coach Scott Slider. “We needed to come up with a few more stops to get the win, but I thought we played great on defense. Offensively, we took some poor shots, had a hard time making a shot when we got one and committed too many turnovers.”

Both teams will see their season continue, and both play Thursday. Keyser (12-10) will play Braxton County at home at 7 p.m., while Frankfort (12-10) will travel to play Grafton, also at 7 p.m.
