FROSTBURG — Montana Bradley had a game-high 15 points and fourth-ranked Mountain Ridge used a big fourth quarter to defeat second-ranked Southern, 47-33, in high school boys basketball Saturday night.
The Miners, 4-1 in their last five games, led 10-8 after one quarter and 25-19 at halftime. But Southern held Mountain Ridge to just two points in third period, and it was tied at 27 heading into the final eight minutes.
Mountain Ridge (11-7, 6-6 Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference) scored 20 points in the fourth quarter while the defense held Southern to four as the Miners pulled away for the victory.
Bradley made four field goals and 6-of-7 free throws and Daniel Strietbeck added 11 points for the Miners.
Joe Kisselovich had 10 points for Southern (11-7, 9-4).
The game ended a long day at Mountain Ridge, which hosted the Bi-County Wrestling Tournament and three boys basketball games.
Mountain Ridge won all three games.
The Miners beat Southern in the jayvee game 46-26 with Braden Ishler scoring 13 points and Cody Malone 12. Billy Fazenbaker had 12 for Southern.
Mountain Ridge won the freshman game 35-26. Jacob Kyle had nine points and Logan Cheshire eight for the Miners. Landon Todd had nine points and Alex Fike eight for the Rams.
Mountain Ridge will host Northern tonight. Southern visits Bishop Walsh Tuesday night.
No. 3 Fort Hill 56

ROMNEY, W.Va. — Third-ranked Fort Hill held Hampshire to 16 points in the first half as it built a 20-point lead by halftime, and coasted to a 13-point win over the Trojans Saturday in Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference play.
Fort Hill improves to 11-5 overall and to 7-4 in the AMAC with the rebound victory. The Sentinels fell 61-53 to Bishop Walsh on Friday. The Sentinels will play against Hampshire on Tuesday, at home. The Trojans fall to 0-10 and 0-6 against the AMAC. They play at Keyser tonight.
Garrett D’Atri and Devin Lee were responsible for the most damage on the Sentinels side. D’Atri scored a game-high 13 points, while Lee provided 10. Mike Crabtree added nine points, and Andy Plummer finished with 10.
Hampshire was led in scoring by Phil Malick’s 12 points, and Caleb Hill hauled in a team-high 12 rebounds to go along with eight points. Jordan Nelson managed to score nine points before fouling out.
St. Maria Goretti 58
Bishop Walsh 52
HAGERSTOWN — Nic Martin scored a game-high 25 points to lead St. Maria Goretti over Bishop Walsh Sunday afternoon.
Martin was almost perfect at the line, sinking 12-of-13 free throws to go with his six baskets. Alex Bollinger, nailing three 3-pointers, finished with 10 points and Aaron Wilkinson added nine.
Bishop Walsh was led by Connor O’Rourke’s 19 points. He had six baskets, including five threes, and was perfect in three trips to the line.
“We just didn’t have an answer for that Martin kid,” said Spartan head coach Jeff Rhodes. “We couldn’t stop him.”
Goretti led at the end of each period, but never by more than the final six-point margin.
Bishop Walsh won the junior varsity game 66-52 behind Kevin Meyers’ 17 points.
Bishop Walsh (7-13) hosts Southern Tuesday night. Goretti improved to 7-11.
Frankfort 49
Berkeley Springs 37
SHORT GAP, W.Va. — Robbie Heltzel scored 16 points and Frankfort nailed eight more 3-point goals in a victory over Berkeley Springs Saturday evening.
Frankfort improved to 10-8 with its fourth-straight win, and has made 17 3-point goals in its last two games.
Marcus Weaver had four 3-pointers, Heltzel had three and Darian Martz one against the Indians.
Heltzel’s 16 points and 12 from Weaver and Logan Wolford, who was 8-for-10 from the foul line, led a balanced Frankfort offense.
Dusty Myers had four points and continued his strong play on the boards with 15 rebounds. Brian Bills had nine rebounds.
Eric Moss led Berkeley Springs with 15 points.
Both teams are 10-8. The game was Frankfort’s last against a sectional foe, and was a key one for upcoming sectional and regional playoff seeding.
Frankfort won the jayvee game 31-28. Ryan Minnigh had 10 points for the Falcons and Dylan Whipple had nine for the Indians.
Frankfort will host Moorefield Tuesday on Senior Night.
Tygarts Valley 70

PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Timmy Gear scored 19 points, Jeremy Lambert had 16 and Brandon Pritt 15 to help carry Tygarts Valley past Union in their PVC Night of Champions game.
The balanced scoring helped Tygarts Valley offset big games by Union’s Chris Donelson and Jeff Savage, who accounted for 48 of Union’s points.
Donelson hit nine field goals, four being 3-pointers, and 5-of-6 free throws for a game-high 27 points. Savage had 21 points, hitting seven field goals and 7-of-9 foul shots.
Union (5-10) begins a four-game week tonight at East Hardy. The Tigers finish the regular season with three home games, against Paw Paw on Wednesday, Pendleton on Thursday and Harman on Friday.
