CUMBERLAND — The Earl Nonnenmann/YMCA Sunday School Basketball League will begin its 82nd annual postseason with the quarterfinal round this weekend.

As with all the winter youth sports teams, this has been a crazy basketball season. Barry Shambaugh, a league supervisor, said “The Sunday School teams need to be commended for getting this season in. The players, coaches and spectators have been great. They have been very flexible and with some creative scheduling all teams will play their 12 games. Hopefully, we do not have anymore bad weather weekends!”

The United Division will wrap up its regular season on Saturday with Cornerstone Baptist (11-0), coached by Michael Bratton, looking to go undefeated. The other United Division games will have final standing implications. The United and American divisions will start their playoffs the following weekend during the semifinal round.

The Continental Junior Division will have a full slate of games on Sunday for the quarterfinals. The  St. Luke’s Lutheran Juniors (12-0), coached by Tedd Eirich, and The LaVale UMC Juniors (9-3), coached by Milburn Michael, will have a bye. In other Continental Junior Division action, fourth seed St. Paul’s Lutheran Juniors (3-9) plays fifth seed St. Patricks Juniors (3-9), and third seed Metro AME Juniors (7-5) take on sixth seed Wiley Ford Brethren (2-10).

In the National Division, undefeated LaVale UMC Seniors (12-0), coached by Steve Milburn, and St. Paul’s Lutheran (9-3), coached by Gary Miller, have byes.
