CUMBERLAND — Archbishop Spalding defeated Elizabeth Seton by 20 and Good Counsel had little trouble with Seton Keough, winning by 24 in the last game of the opening round of the Bishop Walsh Girls Invitational Tournament Thursday at Bishop Walsh School.
St. John’s started the day with a runaway win over Bishop Walsh before McDonogh and Georgetown Visitation combined for 20 three-pointers in a 18-point victory for McDonogh.
Today’s action starts at 2:45 p.m. with the Spartans squaring off against Georgetown Visitation, and is followed by Elizabeth Seton versus Seton Keough at 4:15. St. John’s faces McDonogh at 5:45, and play concludes when Archbishop Spalding plays Good Counsel at 7:30 p.m.
St. John’s 77, Bishop Walsh 10
The Cadets made 16 field goals and scored 37 points in the opening quarter to get a giant head start on the Spartans on their way to a 67-point win.
Shelbi Harris scored a game-high 13 points, while Amari Carter and Lindsay Allen both scored 10 points. Allen is committed to playing at Notre Dame next season.
Bishop Walsh was prevented from scoring a field goal in the first quarter and had a lone free throw as its offense. The Spartans had five points at halftime before scoring two points in the third and three more in the fourth.
St. John’s, the No. 1 team in The Washington Post’s poll and reigning Washington Catholic Athletic Conference champion, improves to 31-1. Bishop Walsh slips to 2-28.
McDonogh 71, Georgetown 53
Georgetown’s Taylor Delgado connected on five three-pointers and Ana Hagerup sank four more, but it wasn’t enough for the Cubs to keep up with the Eagles and Briana Jacobs’ 22 points.
Jacobs made eight field goals and went 6 of 10 at the foul line to grab her game-high total. Dajah Logan scored 16 points, and Maya Wynn made five of her team’s seven three-pointers to finish with 15 points.
Delgado led Georgetown with 16 points on the back of her five threes. Hagerup added 15 points.
McDonogh, the No. 3 team in The Baltimore Sun, led 19-13 at the end of one quarter and 39-32 at halftime. It created the most distance during the third to take a 61-41 lead into the fourth.
The Cubs improve to 22-7, while the Eagles are now 21-9.
A. Spalding 54, Elizabeth Seton 34
Jade Scaife scored 16 points to lead Archbishop Spalding over Elizabeth Seton in the third game of the Bishop Walsh Girls Invitational Tournament Thursday.
Spalding came in 27-1 overall, ranking No. 1 in The Baltimore Sun poll and No. 2 in The Washington Post’s.
Seton, looking to avenge a 63-52 loss to Spalding earlier this season, were within six at halftime.
The Cavaliers took over with a 17-7 third quarter to run away with the game.
Janelle Hubbard led the Roadrunners with 11 points. Casey Davis added nine.
Torri Chestnut added 11 for the Cavaliers.
Elizabeth Seton falls to 19-11.

Good Counsel 68, Seton Keough 44
Lindsey Spann poured in 27 points to lead Good Counsel over Seton Keough in the fourth game at the Bishop Walsh Girls Invitational Tournament Thursday.
Spann was the second leading scorer on The Washington Post’s fourth-ranked Falcons this season with 14.8 points per game.
They led No. 11 Seton Keough, 32-25 at halftime. Keough was stymied to four points in the third quarter as Good Counsel (26-5) pulled away.
Keough’s leading scorer Karli Zeps put in eight points.
Nicole Enabosi added 15 for the Falcons.
Seton Keough drops to 11-16.
Good Counsel will play Archbishop Spalding tonight at 7:30.
