Clower, Hampshire defeat Keyser, 60-48

ROMNEY, W.Va. — Travis Clower recorded 22 points, five steals and four assists for Hampshire in a 60-48 win over Keyser at home Saturday evening.

The Golden Tornado got off to a slow start with seven first quarter points to trail by 10. They scored 18 in the second but still trailed by 10 at halftime.

The Trojans maintained their double-digit lead throughout the second half to clinch the victory and improve to .500 on the season.

Tyler Hamilton scored 13 and Ryan Streets had 10 in the loss.

Logan Hill added 13 points and nine rebounds for Hampshire (6-6) who plays at Mountain Ridge Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Keyser (1-9) hosts Allegany Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

CRESAPTOWN — Tyler Michael had 27 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and four blocks in a dominating performance as Calvary crushed Shalom Friday night in Mason-Dixon Christian Conference action.

Michael strengthen his hold as the area’s scoring leader with 12 field goals, including two threes, and by making his only foul shot. Matt Dillow scored only two points, but finished with 11 boards, eight assists and six blocks.

The Eagles owned the first quarter to the tune of an 11-2 lead. Shalom rallied in the second quarter, but still trailed 21-16 at halftime. Calvary pulled away again during the third and led 39-28 by the end of the quarter.

Calvary lost the junior varsity contest 35-29. Zach Mason scored nine points and Dalton Lowery had eight for the Eagles.

Calvary (8-6, 4-4 MDCC) plays at Hyndman on Tuesday.

CUMBERLAND — Southern defeated Allegany at Allegany Wednesday.

Tyler Fazenbaker had a game-high 19 for the Rams.

Jason Copman scored 17 to lead the Campers.

Allegany plays at Keyser Tuesday at 4 p.m.

PETERSBURG, W.Va. — Chris Smith scored 20 points to lead Grafton to a win over Petersburg iSaturday night.

Smith, a 6-foot-4 freshman, hit two three-point goals during a critical stretch in the fourth quarter and finished the night 8 for 10 from the foul line.

Trevor Harman had 14 points and Brian George 13 to lead Petersburg.

The Vikings (5-7) led 9-5 after the first quarter and extended it to 18-7 in the second after three technical fouls were called against Grafton. Grant Shanholtz, fouled attempting a three-pointer, converted two free throws, and Harman made four of the six technical foul shots.

But the Bearcats responded with an 18-3 run and closed the first half with a 25-21 lead. They stretched it to 39-27 after three periods. Petersburg cut it to 39-35 with an eight-point spurt to start the fourth quarter. It remained a close game the rest of the way before Grafton secured the win with a few late foul shots.

Grafton won the jayvee game 54-51 in overtime with James Haddix scoring 18 points. Jace Shanholtz had 18 and Ryan VanMeter 14 for Petersburg.

The Vikings play again Tuesday night at Tucker County.
