CUMBERLAND — Denzel Collins and Antonio Manns combined for seven of USC-Salkehatchie’s 10 three-pointers to help the Indians hold off Allegany College of Maryland 60-59 in the Trojans’ Christmas Classic Saturday afternoon at Bob Kirk Arena.
The Trojans had the ball with nine seconds left but committed a turnover without getting a shot off.
Ricky Mosley led Allegany with 16 points, David Jones added 13 and Larry Terry finished with 12.
“I thought we played pretty good defense against a good shooting team,”said Allegany head coach Mike Baker. “(Denzel) Collins made four threes in the second half. He got hot.
“We played hard, played defense pretty well tonight. Even though I’m disappointed that we lost, I was pleased with the effort tonight.”
Manns led the Indians, which led at halftime 27-25, with 16 points. Collins finished with 15.
USC-Salkehatchie led at halftime, 27-25.
Davon Williams led the Trojans with eight rebounds. Mosley had six and Chris Day made eight assists.
The Trojans will be idle until January 4 when it returns after Christmas break for a road game at Essex.
Chesapeake 78
Potomac State 75
KEYSER, W.Va. — Akanni Salako recorded a game-high 26 points and Chesapeake converted enough foul shots down the stretch during a win Saturday afternoon at Potomac State.
The Skipjacks spent half the time pulling away from the Catamounts, while the other half involved PSC closing that gap. Eventually, Potomac State was forced to foul and Chesapeake was able to pull away out of sheer volume of attempts. The Jacks finished 15-for-29 at the foul line compared to just 6-for-15 from Potomac State.
Salako was joined by two other Skipjacks with more than 10 points. Kevin Bonsu scored 18 points, while Dion Bivens finished with 15.
Former Keyser High School star Peyton Hartman led the Cats with 20 points. George Chase scored 13 before fouling out and Reggie Baker added 11.
Potomac State (4-2) plays Friday and Saturday at Cecil in a Holiday Tournament, facing the hosts on Friday at 7 p.m.
Salisbury 68
Frostburg State 64
SALISBURY — Frostburg State’s Christian Jackson had another big scoring night, this time pouring in 35 points, but Salisbury scored at the second-half buzzer and went on to defeat the Bobcats in overtime Saturday afternoon.
Elijah Gore had 22 points on 9 of 13 shooting and Tim Harwood added 20 points for the Sea Gulls (8-1, 1-0 Capital Athletic Conference). Troy King’s rebound and putback, one of his two field goals of the game, tied it at 58 and forced overtime. He finished with 10 points.
Jackson shot 14 of 28 from the field and went 6 of 6 from the foul line for 35 points for FSU (3-6, 1-1). He also had seven rebounds.
DeSean Antoine had 15 points and four steals, Jabari Kamau 12 rebounds and three blocked shots, and Nick Smoot five assists.
Frostburg fought off early foul trouble and an early 16-point deficit to lead 29-28 at halftime. Neither team led by more than four points in the second half.
Kwambina Coker’s layup gave Frostburg a 58-56 lead with 41 seconds left in regulation. Salisbury had several chances to tie it until King finally did after grabbing an offensive rebound in the final seconds.
Salisbury scored the first five points of overtime. Frostburg got to within two at 64-62 after a bucket by Antoine and 66-64 after a jumper by Larry Ennels, but the Gulls hit a pair of foul shots to seal it.
Frostburg plays at Bethany on Tuesday night.
Prince George’s 73
Garrett 58
McHENRY — Garrett’s poor shooting from the field and the free throw line led to their second half collapse in a loss to Prince George’s at home on Saturday.
The Lakers started well against a deep and talented Prince George’s team. They seemed to have the momentum, taking a 37-33 lead into halftime.
Garrett started the second half flat. its inability to find the bottom of the net led to a sizable deficit. The Lakers made just six field goals in the second half and shot 12-for-27 from the free-throw line.
Tyler Logan led Prince George’s with 15. Abbeb Ayodeji had 12 and NieRonn Miles added 10.
Garrett’s Antonio Butler had a game-high 16. Marquise Griffin recorded four points, six rebounds, five blocks and two steals.
Garrett falls to 1-4 in the MD JUCO and 5-6 overall. It hosts Penn Highlands Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
