BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. — Trailing by 18 at halftime, Frankfort came out of the locker room a different team as the Falcons rallied to tie the score by the end of the third quarter and pulled away in the fourth for a 60-55 win over Berkeley Springs in the first round of the West Virginia Class AA Sectional playoffs.
Berkeley Springs worked its way to a 10-7 lead after the first quarter and outscored the Falcons 22-7 during the second quarter to lead 32-14 at halftime. Some switches by Frankfort led to a completely different second half as the Indians were outscored 26-6 in the third to finish the quarter tied at 38.
“They didn’t respond well when we came out and pressed them after halftime,” said Scott Slider, Frankfort’s head coach. “The press created some turnovers for us and we were able to capitalize on them.”
Chase Detrick did most of the damage for the Falcons by scoring 27 points. He made nine field goals and all four of his foul shots. Thane Cutter added 18 points.
The Indians got 13 points from Kyle Appel and 12 from Michael Kerney.
The Falcons (9-14) will host Keyser Thursday at 7:30.

LOST CREEK, W.Va. — Cody Messenger scored 20 points and Zach Wintz added 15 more in South Harrison’s win over Union in the West Virginia Class A Sectional playoffs.
The Hawks led 19-7 after one quarter and 34-16 after two. The lead grew to 27 points (57-30) after the third quarter.
Union, which finishes the year 14-9, got 15 points and five rebounds from Travis Murphy. Jacob Nelson and Nathan Evans had five points each.
For South Harrison, Dylan Smith added 14 points and Logan Kirby 10 as 11 players scored for the Hawks.

CRESAPTOWN — Gavin Hart scored 19 points and Calvary controlled the flow from the start to collect a 55-41 win over CHEN in the opening round of the Maryland Christian School Tournament.
The sixth-seeded Eagles (11-14) will play again today at third-seeded New Covenant in Abingdon.
Hart scored his 19 points on eight field goals, including three three-pointers. Tyler Michael made seven field goals and two foul shots to add 17 points.
CHEN, the No. 10 seed, got 15 points out of Joseph Chase and seven from Kenny Wooten and Michael Richardson.
“It was nice to get a win like this in our first game,” said Calvary coach Matt Dillow. “Hopefully we can carry this momentum into the second round.”

ROMNEY, W.Va. — Liam Rhodes scored 19 points as second-ranked Bishop Walsh closed its regular season with a win over Hampshire Saturday at Hampshire to gain a tie for the Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference championship with Allegany.
Rhodes hit eight field goals, including a pair of three-pointers, to finish with his game-high total, and the Spartans’ defense, led by Billy Conroy and Chris Scarlett, kept the Trojans in the 30’s while limiting sophomore Travis Clower, the second-leading scorer in the area with a 19.9 points-per-game scoring average, to one point and just two field-goal attempts.
Bishop Walsh (21-7 overall, 14-2 AMAC) led 17-9 after the first quarter, 29-14 at the half and 43-25 entering the fourth quarter.
Quincy Redmon scored eight points for the Spartans, with 10 rebounds, four assists, four steals and four blocked shots. Lucas Bruck scored eight points, while Rhodes had five rebounds, Scarlett four assists and two steals, and Conroy two assists and three steals.
Hampshire (13-9, 10-6) was led by Logan Hill with 13 points and Thomas Llewellyn with 11.
Bishop Walsh will play next in the Alhambra Catholic Invitational Tournament March 14-16 at Frostburg State University. Hampshire plays Wednesday at Elkins in the West Virginia Class AAA, Region 2, Section 2 playoffs.
