Allegany, Frostburg breeze to victories

CUMBERLAND — Allegany College of Maryland turned in its best defensive effort of the young season in shutting down Frederick all evening long and racing to a 76-32 Maryland JUCO women’s basketball victory Thursday night at Bob Kirk Arena.

The Trojans led Frederick, 41-19, at the half and held the Cougars to 13 points in the second half.

Ashleigh Fossett led the offense with 15 points, nine coming on three-point goals. Tamara Nesmith hit for 14 points, while Larae Allen, Detonia DeGross, Dakeea Marshall and Jesse Owens all scored seven.

Allegany (7-2) will play Saturday, 3 p.m., at Montgomery-Rockville.

CRESSON, Pa. — Brittany James scored 19 points and Mercedes White added 12 as the Frostburg State wome ran away from Mt. Aloysius in an AMCC game Wednesday night.

The Bobcats (4-1, 2-0) broke open the game midway through the first half. With the Mounties (0-4, 0-1) leading 13-12, Stephanie Straka hit back-to-back layups to give FSU the lead for good. The Bobcats outscored Mt. Aloysius 20-11 over the remainder of the half and led 38-24 lead at the break.

The largest lead was 67-39 in the second half

James finished 8-of-11 from the field with eight rebounds. Lisa Byer came off the bench to score nine points while Brynn Arnone had seven points and eight boards.

Kaylee Keagy poured in a game-high 18 points and eight rebounds for Mt. Aloysius

Frostburg State plays today, at Salisbury, against the College of New Jersey at 6 p.m.
