CUMBERLAND — Kim Jones was in position and put in the rebound-follow at the buzzer to lift the Allegany College of Maryland women’s basketball team to a 61-59 victory over Garrett College Tuesday night at Bob Kirk Arena.
Jones, who finished with six points, rebounded the miss by Jackie Simon and sank the game-winner for the Trojans, who raced to a 27-3 first-half lead and led the entire game until the Lakers tied the score 59-59.
“We started off excellently,” said Allegany coach Garrett Sherman, “and let up on our intensity once we got the big lead. Part of having a young team, I guess.”
Allegany was led by Dakeea Marshall with 14 points and eight rebounds, and Ashleigh Fossett with 14 points, 12 coming on three-pointers as Allegany outshot Garret, 7-0, from behind the arc. Tamara Nesmith scored 11 points.
For Garrett, Janay Collins scored 15 points, Brionna Carter scored 14 points, and Raven Brooks scored 11.
Allegany (4-2) hosts Westmoreland Monday at 7 p.m. Garrett (1-1) visits Baltimore Wednesday, Dec. 2.
