LOUISBURG, N.C. — Allegany College roared back from a 20-point halftime deficit to take a lead in the final minute, but Louisburg cashed in on four trips to the free-throw line and pulled out a 62-59 victory over the Trojans Sunday on the second day of the Louisburg Invitational Tournament.
Allegany (3-2) trailed 44-24 at halftime, but stormed all the way back and led 59-58 with 50 seconds to go. But a pair of free throws put the Hurricanes ahead 60-59, and two more made it 62-59 with seven seconds left.
The Trojans got off a three-point shot from the corner that rimmed out at the buzzer.
Dakeea Marshall led Allegany with 17 points, hitting four field goals and 7-of-8 foul shots. Ashleigh Fossett added 11 points, Kim Jones had 10 and Detonia DeGross nine. Larae Allen pulled in 11 rebounds and Marshall and Tyesha Tharpe had eight.
Ariel Phelps led Louisburg with 19 points and Shaquitia Manning had 17.
Allegany begins Maryland JUCO play Tuesday, against Garrett, in a 4:45 game at Bob Kirk Arena.
