From Staff Reports
MARTINSVILLE, Va. — Darrell Patterson sank three free throws with no time on the clock to lift Potomac State to a 67-66 win over Patrick Henry Thursday in Martinsville.
Patterson led all scorers with 17 points, and was joined in double figures by Dalec Cromwell and Tremayne Mathews with 15 points each.
Playing without three starters, the Catamounts found themselves trailing 66-64 with eight seconds left. After getting the ball up court, the Cats called a timeout to set up a shot for Patterson. Patterson got his look on a 28-foot shot, but missed. Fortunately for PSC, he was fouled on the attempt and went to the line for three foul shots. With the clock reading zeroes and all alone on the court, Patterson made all three to send the Catamounts to 5-3 on the season.
Patrick Henry, the defending Region X Division II champs, were led by Darius Echols’ 13 points.
Potomac will play will Saturday at 2 p.m. at Brunswick, N.C.
