CUMBERLAND — Marcel Chesson had team highs with 17 points and six steals to lead Allegany College past Westmoreland (Pa.) County, 67-51, in junior college men’s basketball Wednesday evening at Bob Kirk Arena.
The Trojans evened their record at 2-2 with the win in their home opener. They will host Prince George’s Community College on Friday at 7 p.m.
Chesson hit seven field goals, with three being three-pointers. Ten Trojans scored. Malik Witten added 12 points and a team-high nine rebounds, Troy Vasco had 10 points and Chris Gee seven assists.
Moziah Harris had a game-high 18 points for Westmoreland.
Although the Trojans never trailed, coach Mike Baker saw several areas his team needs to improve upon.
“It was a very lackluster performance,’’ he admitted. “We need to mature as a team and we can’t just play up to the level of our competition. We need better practice habits in order to play better in game situations, because you play the way you practice.
“Westmoreland was undermanned, but they battled and did what they needed to do to try to stay close. We just didn’t play near to our potential.”
The game was the first of three consecutive home games for Allegany. After Friday’s game with Prince George’s, the Trojans begin Maryland JUCO Conference play by hosting Garrett on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

MCHENRY — Chris Hilliard hit two foul shots to tie the game with 14 seconds left, and Shawn Greenfield hit one 13 seconds later to win it, lifting Garrett past Howard in the Lakers’ Maryland JUCO Conference opener.
Greenfield scored a game-high 29 points and hit several big buckets to rally the Lakers, who trailed by seven with three minutes to go. He hit 10 field goals, including four three-pointers.
Hilliard finished with a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Dominique Goodwin had nine points, Joe Dubuche seven poins and three assists and Doma Ibrahim six points and two blocked shots.
Kyle Servance scored 27 points and Benny Iko 16 for Howard.
Tied 76-76, Kory Cobb hit a pair of foul shots with 21 seconds remaining to put Howard ahead by two.
Howard’s Quante Newton missed the front end of a one-and-one, Hillard was fouled on the rebound, and nailed both free throws to tie it at 78.
After a solid defense stand by the Lakers, Greenfield was fouled with five-tenths of a second on the clock. He made the first free throw and missed the second on purpose, with time expiring before Howard could get off a shot.
“It was a tremendous job by Chris Hilliard, with his 10 rebounds and foul shots,’’ said Garrett coach Dennis Gibson.
“He’s become one of our better foul shooters and has only missed two free throws this year.
“Shawn Greenfield got us going and really took over offensively when we were down by seven in the final minutes. We played 11 guys and got good contributions from everybody.”
Garrett (4-2) plays at Butler on Saturday at 7 o’clock.
