Brooks’ 28 leads PSC in opener

Catamounts defeat Dundalk

From Staff Reports

DUNDALK — Jordan Brooks flirted with a triple-double in his Potomac State debut and the Catamounts won a foul-filled season opener over Dundalk, 101-89, in junior college men’s basketball Tuesday evening.

Brooks, a two-time high school player of the year at Fort Hill, hit 9 field goals and 9-of-10 foul shots for 28 points. He also had 10 rebounds, nine steals and six assists.

Dalec Cromwell, Darrell Patterson and Harley Brooks all had 16 points, with Cromwell also pulling in 10 rebounds. Tremayne Matthews added 12 points and Maurice Newby had seven points and 11 rebounds.

Greg Hamms had 23 points and Raquise Morris 22 for Dundalk.

One of the few times Potomac State trailed was at the half, 43-42. Jordan Brooks scored 22 of his 28 points after the break, leading a 59-point second half that carried the Catamounts to the victory.

Fifty-eight fouls were called, with Dundalk getting 36 of the 58 and having four of its starters foul out. That led to Potomac State taking 63 free throws, and making 43, compared to Dundalk’s 17-for-32 showing.

“Both teams were really rusty. It was the first game for both of us,’’ said PSC coach Shawn White. “We were kind of sloppy, but we managed to score when we needed to.

“We have a bunch of different guys — sophomores, transfers and freshmen — and it’s going to take a while for us to mesh together and play well.”

Potomac State plays Delaware Tech in the first round of the Frederick Community College tournament on Friday at 5 p.m.
