Gibson, GC trip up PSC

Late rally leads to 75-71 win; Baker scores 22 in loss

KEYSER, W.Va. — Matt Gibson scored 19 points, including 14 in the second half and seven in the final 45 seconds, to help power Garrett to a 75-71 win over Potomac State in junior college men’s basketball Wednesday evening.

Antonio Butler had 16 points, four assists and three steals and Din Moore 14 points for the Lakers (11-9), who took an early eight-point lead, held a 39-35 edge at halftime, then rallied from a five-point deficit in the final minutes for the win. Guila Panza added eight points and seven rebounds.

Reggie Baker had a game-high 22 points for Potomac State (9-6). Peyton Hartman hit four three-point shots and had 14 points, George Chase added 13 and Mike Hatfield 10.

Potomac State overcame the halftime deficit and took a 65-60 lead with about three minutes to play, but the Lakers outscored the Catamounts 15-6 the rest of the way.

Gibson hit his fourth three-pointer of the night to break a tie and give Garrett the lead for good with 45 seconds left. He hit four foul shots the rest of the way to help seal it.

Potomac State will host Westmoreland and Garrett entertains Frederick on Saturday.

CUMBERLAND — Tyler Logan went off for 30 points for Prince George’s in a win at Allegany College of Maryland Wednesday night.

Allegany committed 22 turnovers and shot just 10-for-20 from the free-throw line. The teams went back-and-forth for most of the first half. The Trojans hit a dry spell towards the end of the half to go down 46-39 at the break.

The Trojans kept the deficit under 10 for the entire game until they had to foul to extend the game at the end.

NieRonn Miles had 25 points for Prince George’s.

Larry Terry led the Trojans with 21. Ricky Mosley had 15 and seven rebounds. Davon Williams grabbed 10 rebounds to go with three points.

Allegany (6-16) plays Friday at Southern Maryland at 7 p.m. The make-up game with Dundalk is Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Dundalk.
