McHENRY — Janice Bartley scored 24 points to lead Garrett College over Allegany College of Maryland, 69-66, in a Maryland JUCO women’s basketball game Thursday at Garrett.
Bartley hit nine field goals, including three of the Lakers’ six three-point goals, while Shameena Johnson scored 15 points and Terra McKenzie 10.
Allegany was led by Madi Nightengale, who scored 27 points, hitting five three-pointers on the night. Monique Rhodes scored 18 points and Sam Frankenberry scored 11.
Both teams hit 27 field goals as well as six three-point goals. Garrett was 9-for-19 from the free-throw line, while Allegany was 6-for-11. Allegany played the final 3:30 of the game with four players, having come into the game with five players on the roster, with one fouling out.
“We couldn’t be more proud of the girls’ all-out effort tonight,” said Allegany head coach Bethany Sindy. “They literally played their hearts out. It was one of our best performances. Although the scoreboard didn’t show it, the way we look at it is we just ran out of time. Every player stepped up and made plays for us. We’re dealing with some injuries like most teams are this time of year. It was just great to see each player step up and make an impact tonight.”
Garrett led at the half, 37-31.
Garrett (10-8) will play Sunday at Hagerstown, while Allegany (3-18) will host Hagerstown on Saturday.

PITTSBURGH — Potomac State won its second straight on a two-game road trip, rolling past CCAC-Allegheny.
Jenna McAtee led the Catamounts with 19 points, while Kirsten Ward scored 13 and Rachel Waibogha 11. Waibogha also had 10 rebounds, McAtee four steals, and Monique McDonald four assists and three steals.
Potomac State led at the half, 32-20.
Potomac State (6-14) will host CCAC-Allegheny Monday at 5 p.m.

Frostburg State 85
ST. MARY’S CITY — Elaina Hummel had a double-double, four players scored in double figures and Frostburg State scored the most points in a single game in four years, but it wasn’t quite enough as the Bobcats lost at St. Mary’s in overtime Wednesday night.
Hummel had 19 points and 12 rebounds and Steph Straka 19 points, seven assists and seven rebounds for Frostburg State (6-16, 2-7 Capital Athletic Conference). Jodie Gaul added 12 points coming off the bench and Ronje James had 10 points.
The 85 points were the most for an FSU women’s team since an 87-48 win over Pitt-Bradford during the 2008-09 season.
St. Mary’s (10-9, 4-5) also had four scorers reach double figures, led by Sophie Pruden, who had a game-high 21 points and hit a shot at the buzzer to force overtime.
The Seahawks pulled away in the overtime, scoring 16 points in the extra period.
Frostburg State will host Salisbury on Senior Day on Saturday at 1 p.m.
