SMITHSBURG — Sarah Raines finished 10-for-11 on her free throws as part of a 16-point performance that propelled No. 3 Mountain Ridge to a 42-29 win over Smithsburg Saturday afternoon.
The Miners led 12-5 at the end of the first quarter, but the Leopards fought back to tie the score at 17 by halftime. Mountain Ridge clamped down on defense in the second half to lead 30-23 after three quarters and continued on for a 13-point win.
Besides Raines’ 16 points, Shae Winner scored 12 and Anna Broadwater had eight for the Miners.
Smithsburg was led by Beverley Kum with nine points.
Molly Winner scored 10 points in Mountain Ridge’s 40-16 junior varsity win. Jonah Harris and Lexi Metz each scored eight.
The Miners (11-3) play Monday at home against Allegany.
