ROMNEY, W.Va. — Sam Hoban poured in 27 points and fourth-ranked Keyser turned up the defense in the second half and charged past Hampshire, 56-43, in their Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference girls basketball game Tuesday evening.
Carly Grady went 6 for 6 from the foul line and finished with 14 points and Lexi Carr added 12 for the Golden Tornado (10-5, 7-3 AMAC), which has won five of its last six.
Allyson Fout had 11 points and Ericka Gordon seven rebounds for Hampshire (6-8, 2-7).
Hoban made only five field goals in her 27-point game, but three were from beyond the three-point line. She had a big night from the free-throw line, hitting 14 of 18 tries.
Keyser actually trailed by double figures, 31-20, at halftime. The Tornado dominated the second half, outscoring the Trojans 36-12.
Hampshire won the jayvee game 37-26. Brooke Harwood had 13 points and Katie Lafollette 12 for the Trojans.
Hampshire will host Fort Hill tonight. Keyser plays again Friday, at home, against Berkeley Springs.
Frankfort 48, Petersburg 47
SHORT GAP, W.Va. — Stephanie Cornachia hit a free throw with time expired to give Frankfort a 48-47 win over Petersburg at home Tuesday.
The Falcons seemed to have the game in control when they stretched their 4-point first quarter lead into 12 at halftime.
Petersburg battled back with a 16-7 third to pull within three.
It was back-and-forth in the fourth leading up to Cornachia’s fourteenth point.
She also grabbed 11 rebounds. Mikala Miller scored 13 points and Taylor Sisk had 11.
Brittani Bible had a game-high 23 for Petersburg. Cheyenne Earle added 11 for Petersburg.
The Falcons took the jayvee game, 43-29. Crystal Yaider led with 17. Cassidy Hedrick had 10 for Petersburg.
Frankfort (7-7) plays at Bishop Walsh Friday at 7:30.
