Mountain Ridge powers past Allegany

CUMBERLAND — Undefeated Mountain Ridge utilized its balance and used a late second-half run to put the game away in defeating Allegany, 64-38, in Appalachian Mountain Athletic Conference girls basketball action Thursday at Allegany.

Shae Winner led the Miners in scoring with 16 points, while Sarah Raines scored 14 and Emma Baker 10.

Micah Wormack scored 10 points with 10 rebounds and five blocked shots for Allegany, while Kristin Sell scored eight. Courtney Landis had four assists, three steals and five rebounds.

Mountain Ridge took a 17-11 lead at the end of the first quarter and was ahead 29-19 at the half. Allegany, however, began to chip away, putting together a stretch in which it cut the lead to six points midway through the third. It was it this point, though, that Mountain Ridge stepped on the gas to build a 14-point lead entering the fourth quarter.

Mountain Ridge (3-0 overall, 3-0 AMAC) will host Petersburg on Monday. Allegany (2-1, 1-1 ) will play Saturday at Hampshire.

Mountain Ridge won the junior varsity game, 38-20. Molly Winner had 10 points for Mountain Ridge.

CUMBERLAND — Kirsten Rayner poured in 24 points as Northern breezed past Bishop Walsh for its first win of the year.

Rayner hit nine field goals and 6 of 10 free throws for the Huskies (1-2 overall, 1-2 AMAC) who led 13-3 after the first quarter and 24-3 at the half. Allison Yommer added 11 points.

Ally Simpson led BW (0-3, 0-3) with four points.

Northern won the jayvee game 35-23 with Emily Parandhamia scoring 16 points. Maggie Mathews led BW with nine.

Northern plays again tonight, at home, against Keyser. Bishop Walsh hosts Fort Hill on Saturday at 2:30.

Paw Paw    21


PAW PAW, W.Va. — Sara Wagner scored 14 points and Alisha Shives added 10 to send Hancock past Paw Paw.

Ten players scored for the Panthers, who built a big early lead and were on top 25-9 at the half.

Belle Harrold led Paw Paw with eight points.

The Pirates (1-2) will entertain Turkeyfoot this evening.
